GSELC e-NEWS Volume 11 Number 33     Friday, September 3, 2010

GSELC e-NEWS Volume 11 Number 33     Friday, September 3, 2010

Greetings from GOOD SHEPHERD!

We rejoice in the wonder of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit! During
this Pentecost season our attention turns to the matter of discipleship,
responding to God’s gracious love through Christ Jesus, with lives committed to
faithfully doing God’s will each day. The SIX MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP are:
Daily Prayer, Weekly Worship, Daily Bible Reading, Service, Spiritual
Relationships and Generous Giving through Tithing. May we strive throughout this
Pentecost season to grow as disciples of Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord.

Sunday, September 5- The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost: Called to
contemplate the cost of discipleship today, we might be helped by translating

Paul’s request to Philemon into our prayer of the day: Refresh my heart in
Christ. Strengthened by the company and forgiveness of the Christ in the
blessed sacrament and recalling God’s grace in remembrance of baptism, we can be
strengthened in this hour to "choose life"- to choose life in God as our own.
The readings for this Sunday are: 1L- Deuteronomy 30: 15-20; Psalm 1; 2L-
Philemon 1-21; G- Luke 14: 25-33. Our service time remains at 9:30AM this
Sunday as we enjoy our annual outdoor service and picnic. We hope you will
join us!

Saturday, September 11- Jesus tells two stories that suggest a curious
connection between the lost being found and sinners repenting. God takes the
initiative to find sinners, each of whom is so precious to God that his or her
recovery brings joy in heaven.
The readings for this evening are: 1L- Exodus 32: 7-14; G- Luke 15: 1-10.
Join us for our September Contemporary Service beginning at 6:30PM. We will
also pause to remember the events of 9-11-2001.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------
THIS WEEK AT GSELC

Sunday, September 05- THE FIFTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
@9:30AM- Outdoor Service & Picnic

Tuesday, September 07- @6:30PM- Sunday School Teachers meeting
@7:30PM- Youth Ministry Committee meeting

Wednesday, September 08- @10:30AM- Muhlenberg Churches Pantry meeting
@7:30PM- Senior Choir Rehearsal

Thursday, September 09- @7:00PM- Haunted House planning meeting
@8:00PM- Pumpkin Festival planning meeting

Saturday, September 11- @7:00AM- 11AM- Community Breakfast
@6:30PM- Contemporary Worship
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------

===============================================================
PROGRESS REPORT:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------
Your continuing financial support is more crucial than ever!
Volume 11 Number 30     Friday, August 13, 2010                GSELC e-NEWS

Sunday, August 15- The Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost: The word of God is
a refining fire. Jesus is the great divide in human history. He invites
our undivided attention and devotion. Today, in the assembly, we are
surrounded by "so great a cloud of witnesses." In the word and in the holy
communion we are invited yet again to look to Jesus, "the pioneer and perfecter of
our faith." The readings for this Sunday are 1L- Jeremiah 23: 23-29; Psalm
82; 2L- Hebrews 11: 29- 12: 2; G- Luke 12: 49-56.

Saturday, August 21: Jesus heals a woman on the sabbath, offering her a
new beginning for her life. When challenged by a narrow reading of the
sabbath command, Jesus responds by expanding "sabbath work" to include setting
people free from bondage. The readings for this evening are: 1L- Isaiah 58:
9b- 14; G- Luke 13: 10-17.
