GSELC e-NEWS Volume 12 Number 16     Friday, April 22, 2011

   GSELC e-NEWS Volume 12 Number 16     Friday, April 22, 2011

Greetings from GOOD SHEPHERD!

We have entered the sacred THREE DAYS and are on our way with Christ to the
cross of Calvary and beyond to the empty tomb. This is a crucial time to
take stock of our lives, to recognize our sinfulness and our need of
redemption. With the disciples of old, we want nothing more than to run away and

hide and not have to face the consequences of our sin. But Christ gives
Himself freely on our behalf. In Him the victory is won and we can go on to the
joy of Easter and the new life won for us in Jesus Christ our Savior and
Lord. May this sacred time draw us back to God through the life, death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord!

Friday, April 22- Good Friday: At the heart of the Good Friday liturgy is
the passion according to John, which proclaims Jesus as a triumphant king
who reigns from the cross. The ancient title for this day- the triumph of the
cross- reminds us that the church gathers not to mourn this day but to
celebrate Christ’s life-giving passion and to find strength and hope in the tree
of life. In the ancient bidding prayer we offer petitions for all the
world for whom Christ died. This sacred night’s liturgy culminates in the new
life that begins at dawn on Easter morning. The readings for this evening
are: 1L- Isaiah 52: 13- 53: 12; Psalm 22; 2L- Hebrews 10: 16-25; G- John 18:
1- 19: 42. Join us as our Tenebrae service leads us through increasing
darkness to the ray of light that hints at the glory that is to come.

Sunday, April 24- The Resurrection of Our Lord/ Easter Day: On this day
the Lord has acted! On the first day of the week God began creation,
transforming darkness into light. On this, the "eighth day" of the week, Jesus
Christ was raised from the dead. We celebrate this new creation in the waters
of baptism and in the feast of victory. With great joy we celebrate this day
of days, even as we begin the great fifty days of Easter. Filled with
hope, we go forth to share the news that Christ is risen! The readings for this
glorious day of celebration are: 1L- Acts 10: 34-43; Psalm 118; 2L-
Colossians 3: 1-4; G- Matthew 28: 1-10.  Don’t miss our triumphant celebration of
Jesus’ resurrection and the new life He makes possible for each of us! Join
us for our Easter Dawn service at 6:30AM and services of Holy Communion at
8:15AM and 10:30AM.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------
THIS WEEK AT GSELC

Sunday, April 24-       EASTER SUNDAY
6:30AM- Easter Dawn Service
8:15AM- Resurrection Celebration Holy Communion
9:00AM- Sunday School Easter Veggie Tales Video
10:30AM- Resurrection Celebration Holy Communion

Monday, April 25- NO CHOIR REHEARSALS

Tuesday, April 26- @7:30PM- WELCA meeting

Wednesday, April 27- NO Choir Rehearsals
@5:00PM- Musical Rehearsal

Thursday, April 28- @7:00PM- Youth Group Night

Saturday, April 30- @11:00AM- LYO Trip to Shady Maple
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------

===============================================================
PROGRESS REPORT:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SpecialPlease don’t
stop now!
GSELC e-NEWS Volume 12 Number 11     Friday, March 18, 2011

Greetings from GOOD SHEPHERD!

The season of Lent is a journey of faith with Christ our Lord as He makes
His way to the cross on Calvary’s hilltop, where He would die so that we
might live. Following on this journey causes us to take stock of our lives, to
recognize our sinfulness and our need of redemption. With the disciples of
old, we want nothing more than to run away and hide and not have to face the
consequences of our sin. But Christ gives Himself freely on our behalf.
In Him the victory is won and we can go on through the Great Three Days to
the joy of Easter and beyond. May this Lenten season draw us back to God
through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord!

Sunday, March 20- The Second Sunday in Lent: During Lent we journey with

all those around the world who will be baptized at the Easter Vigil. In this
day’s gospel Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be born of water and
Spirit. At the font we are given a new birth as daughters and sons of God.
Volume 12 Number 9      Friday, March 4, 2011              GSELC e-NEWS

Greetings from GOOD SHEPHERD!

We rejoice in the wonder of Christ, the Light of the world, come to
make known God’s will for us and to bring us salvation. The season of Epiphany
is a time for mission. As the old Bible School song says: "Hide your light
under a bushel, NO! Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine! May we see
the Light of Christ’s presence among us anew each day, and do our best to be
His Light shining in the darkness all around us. Live in the Light anew
this Epiphany season, dear friends in Christ!

Sunday, March 6- The Transfiguration of Our Lord: This festival is a
bridge between the Advent-Christmas-Epiphany cycle that comes to a close this day
and the Lent-Easter cycle that beings in several days. On the mount of
transfiguration Jesus is revealed as God’s beloved Son, echoing the words at
his baptism. This vision of glory sustains us as Jesus faces his impending
death in Jerusalem. We turn this week to Ash Wednesday and our yearly
baptismal journey from Lent to Easter. We put aside the alleluia at the conclusion
of this day’s liturgy. This word of joy will be omitted during the
penitential season of Lent and will be sung again at Easter. The readings for this
Sunday are: 1L- Exodus 24: 12-18; Psalm 2; 2L- 2 Peter 1: 16-21; G- Matthew
17: 1-9. As we begin the month of March we gather at the Lord’s Table at
8:15AM and 10:30AM.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------
THIS WEEK AT GSELC

Sunday, March 06- THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD
@8:`5AM- Holy Communion Service
@9:15AM-  Sunday School
@10:30AM- Holy Communion Service

Monday, March 07- @7:00PM- Cherub Choir
@7:30PM- Handbell Choir

Tuesday, March 08-      COMMITTEE NIGHT
@6:30PM- Staff meeting
@7:00PM- Leadership Team meeting
@7:30PM- Committee meetings
@9:00PM- Executive Committee meeting

Wednesday, March 09- @7:30PM- Ash Wednesday Communion Service

Thursday, March 10- @7:30PM- Long Range Planning Committee meeting

Saturday, March 12-     @7- 11:00AM- Community Breakfast
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------

===============================================================
PROGRESS REPORT:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------
Your continuing financial support is more crucial than ever!
