Greetings from GOOD SHEPHERD!
We rejoice in the wonder of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit! During this Pentecost season our attention turns to the matter of discipleship, responding to God’s gracious love through Christ Jesus, with lives committed to faithfully doing God’s will each day. The SIX MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP are: Daily Prayer, Weekly Worship, Daily Bible Reading, Service, Spiritual Relationships and Generous Giving through Tithing. May we strive throughout this Pentecost season to grow as disciples of Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord.
Sunday, August 29- The Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost: Invited and inviting- that is the nature of the church. by God’s grace in holy baptism we
have a place at the banquet table of the Lord. When, by the power of that same Spirit, humility and mutual love continue among us, the church can be more inviting still. We are planning our annual informal outdoor service and picnic to be held on Sunday, September 5 at 9:30AM. This will be a great way to celebrate Labor Day weekend. We hope you will join us! Bring folding chairs or a blanket to sit on and wear casual clothes. Bring a covered dish to share. We hope to see you for this most enjoyable celebration!

DRIVE-IN MOVIE TRIP - THIS FRIDAY the youth group will go to the drive-in movies! That's right - it's going to be lots of fun! Sign-up at the youth bulletin board. We will be leaving between 6 and 6:30 PM and we will get back very late. We will stay for both movies at the drive-in (you'll get two movies for the price of one)! The cost and the movies will be announced at a later date. Watch for more details to come.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - Thanks to everyone who helped with BIBLE SCHOOL! WE HAD A GREAT WEEK LAST WEEK! THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!
COMMUNITY YARD SALE & FLEA MARKET - THIS SATURDAY -- we will hold a Community Yard Sale and Flea Market in the church parking lot from 7 AM to 2 PM. This will be a fundraiser for the playwrights. You or your parents (other adult family members or friends) may set-up a table (bring your own table). It's only $10 ($15 if you are a church member and want to borrow a table. If you or your family would like a spot, please let Mike know ASAP. We also need youth to help with the concesssion stand. If you can help, e-mail Mike with what time you can help.

Sunday, August 15- The Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost: The word of God is a refining fire. Jesus is the great divide in human history. He invites our undivided attention and devotion. Today, in the assembly, we are surrounded by "so great a cloud of witnesses." In the word and in the holy communion we are invited yet again to look to Jesus, "the pioneer and perfecter of our faith." The readings for this Sunday are 1L- Jeremiah 23: 23-29; Psalm 82; 2L- Hebrews 11: 29- 12: 2; G- Luke 12: 49-56.
Saturday, August 21: Jesus heals a woman on the sabbath, offering her a new beginning for her life. When challenged by a narrow reading of the sabbath command, Jesus responds by expanding "sabbath work" to include setting people free from bondage. The readings for this evening are: 1L- Isaiah 58: 9b- 14; G- Luke 13: 10-17. The following snacks, craft supplies and decorations are needed to help make our Bible School and huge success and to defray the cost of the program. 1. UPCOMING EVENTS
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - Only one week to go! Bible School will be held from August 9 through the 13. This year our theme is Baobab Blast which takes place on the African Savannah. Teachers, helpers, and other support staff are needed. If you can help, please let Mike or Bev know ASAP. You may volunteer as long as you have just completed 7th grade or higher. Youth who just completed 6th grade or less can still participate in Bible School! If you are a teacher, there is a teacher's meeting on Tuesday night at 7:30 PM.
COMMUNITY YARD SALE & FLEA MARKET - On Saturday, August 21 we will hold a Community Yard Sale and Flea Market in the church parking lot from 7 AM to 2 PM. This will be a fundraiser for the playwrights. You or your parents (other adult family members or friends) may set-up a table (bring your own table). It's only $10 ($15 if you are a church member and want to borrow a table. If you
or your family would like a spot, please let Mike know ASAP. We also need youth to help with the concesssion stand. If you can help, e-mail Mike with what time you can help.
CONTEMPORARY SERVICE - Our next conetmporary service will be held on Saturday, August 21 at 6:30 PM. The Worship Team will practice at 5:00 PM. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
DRIVE-IN MOVIE TRIP - On Friday, August 27 the youth group will go to the drive-in movies! That's right - it's going to be lots of fun! Sign-up at the youth bulletin board. We will be leaving between 6 and 6:30 PM and we will get back very late. We will stay for both movies at the drive-in (you'll get two movies for the price of one)! The cost and the movies will be announced at a later date. Watch for more details to come.
MESSY MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - On Sunday, September 19 we will kick-off our new Youth Group year with MESSY MISSION IMPOSSIBLE at 6 PM. You won't want to miss this fun and VERY MESSY event. Watch for more details to come...

Greetings from GOOD SHEPHERD!
We rejoice in the wonder of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit! During this Pentecost season our attention turns to the matter of discipleship, responding to God’s gracious love through Christ Jesus, with lives committed to faithfully doing God’s will each day. The SIX MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP are: Daily Prayer, Weekly Worship, Daily Bible Reading, Service, Spiritual Relationships and Generous Giving through Tithing. May we strive throughout this Pentecost season to grow as disciples of Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord.
Sunday, August 1- The Tenth Sunday After Pentecost: This day’s texts offer instruction and encouragement for all who are occasionally overwhelmed by
the ‘unhappy business" of life. Jesus urges us to take care and be on guard against all kinds of greed. We who have died with Christ in holy baptism have also been raised with him and are encouraged to elevate our thinking, seeking the "things that are above." To that end we seek the sustenance of the Lord’s supper and the encouragement of God’s word. The readings for this Sunday are: 1L- Ecclesiastes 1: 2, 12-14; 2: 18-23; Psalm 49; 2L- Colossians 3: 1-11; G- Luke 12: 13-21. Bid on a variety of items for 1, 2 or 3 quarters (maximum) depending on original retail value of product(s_. Everyone can bid on any or all items! You win when your assigned number is called and you have bid on the item. It’s that easy! Admission is $5 per bidding number and you may purchase more than one number. Presale tickets will be available. We are also looking for donations for the auction. If you have a talent (sewing, knitting, wood crafts, etc.) we would appreciate all donations. Based on the value of your donation is how the bidding will be decided. Please keep your place of employment in mind too. We are requesting gift certificates or prize packs from community businesses too. If you think the business would offer an item, we can supply a written request. Saturday, July 24: In teaching his disciples this prayer, Jesus also reminds them to focus on God’s coming reign, God’s mercy, and the strengthening of the community. Jesus encourages his disciples to child-like trust and persistence in prayer. The readings for this evening are: 1L- Genesis 18: 20-32; G- Luke 11: 1-13. Join us for our July Contemporary Service, beginning at 6:30PM.
Sunday, July 25- The Ninth Sunday After Pentecost: Persistence in prayer evoked the admiration of Jesus and wins the attention of the Lord when
Abraham intercedes for Sodom. The life of the baptized- to be rooted and built up in Christ Jesus the Lord- is to be rooted in prayer. God hears and answers prayer and so strengthens God’s own.
