GOOD SHEPHERD PRESCHOOL
A place to laugh.
A place to learn.
A place to love.

Our primary goal at Good Shepherd Preschool is to provide an atmosphere where a child can be both loved and loving. We will help each child grow as a unique individual while learning to interact among his peers. Helping parents develop a healthy, positive self image for each child is our first concern.

Good Shepherd offers a two day morning and afternoon program as well as a three day morning and afternoon session:

Tuesday-Thursday Programs
Morning Session 9-11:30 am.
Afternoon Session 12:30-3:00 PM.

These classes are open to children who are at least 3 years of age by August 31st of the year in which they are enrolled. All areas of development will be addressed; social, self-help and listening skills will be stressed. The child must be potty trained. Both of these sessions are good introductory classes to preschool. The maximum class size is 15 with one teacher and one aide.

Monday-Wednesday-Friday Programs
Morning Sessions 9-11:30 am.
Afternoon Sessions 12:30-3:00 PM.

These classes are open to children who are at least 4 years of age by August 31st of the year in which they are enrolled. All areas of development will be addressed. Pre-kindergarten skills will be stressed for all children. The maximum class size is 16 with one teacher and one aide.

ALL IN THE DAY'S PLAY

GROSS MOTOR SKILLS - games and activities that include running, jumping, throwing, climbing and balancing will be included each day. We will go outside whenever conditions permit. Developing the large muscles is a necessary step in refining the fine motor skills.

FINE MOTOR SKILLS - puzzles, games, beads, blocks, legos, etc. will be made available during free play to give each child a chance to exercise the smaller muscles and improve his hand-eye coordination. Art projects will be created to help increase these skills.

COGNITIVE SKILLS - the use of puzzles, games, cause and effect toys will help build these skills. We will encourage each child's inquisitive nature and help develop problem solving skills. We will constantly explore our environment to help the child become aware of his world. We use units of study which include science, math, social studies and good citizenship.

LANGUAGE SKILLS - each child will be given an opportunity each day to express an idea, tell about an experience or just talk about himself. Speech will be developed through books, music, finger plays and story telling. "Show and Tell" is a good time to watch language skills improve.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL GROWTH - each child will be encouraged to take care of himself in dressing and toileting and to increase his self-help skills. The child's ability to follow directions and to complete tasks will develop by following the classroom routine. Free play presents an opportunity for each child to interact and learn to share and take turns.

SPIRITUAL NEEDS - we will provide a learning experience in a Christian setting. Whenever it is appropriate, we will discuss God's love and what God has given us, as we are interested in fostering a love and respect for nature. The religious significance of holidays will be discussed. However, we will not present any formal religious lessons.

To accomplish our goals and make preschool more interesting, we will work mostly in units or through themes. Some programs that we will use would include; Me and My Family, Feelings, Colors, Numbers, Holidays, Seasons, Understanding People with Disabilities, Plants, Animals and their Worlds, etc. We present a 3 year curriculum so except for the holidays and seasons, the units of study will be new to the child each year.

Although we plan to make this a growing and learning experience for your child, we will have lots of fun. We will learn through play.

TUITION - Tuition for the preschool is based on a yearly fee and reflects the cost to maintain your child in the program for the year. This annual fee is broken down into nine (9) monthly payments for your convenience. Tuition for the 08/09 and 09/10 school years is $73/month for the two day classes and $95/month for the three day classes.

PARENTAL CONTACT - The teachers are always available to discuss the curriculum, to accept ideas and suggestions, to evaluate adjustment problems. Parents are welcome to visit at anytime. Conferences will be set up when the teachers or parents feel one is warranted. MWF classes will schedule a day of parent/teacher conferences before kindergarten registration.

DRESS - Children should be dressed in comfortable play clothes. There will be some messy science and art projects. Please remember that we do go out whenever possible. Send hats and mittens in cold weather. Children should be able to put on coats and hats unassisted other than to fasten buttons and zippers.

FIELD TRIPS - We will plan field trips occasionally during the year that relate to our units. We rely on parents to be insured drivers for our trips. We follow Pennsylvania Law that all children in our school must be in approved car seats.
